Photostudies!!!!

Photostudies sure are fun, think I learned a little bit here. Something very strange, no matter how hard I try to be acurate, grids and all sorts, I just cant replicate it all in the right place. Strange, how am I not seeing?

Another drawing for my 3D project. Not a fan of this drawing at all, doesnt look all that grate, its boring, its shading is crappy, I spent too long on it.
But i learned a trick or too, so I guess it was kind of worth it. I know what to avoid now thats for sure.

Hoe's house

Apparently this has Russian folk law origin, some house on chicken legs and some crazy witch that lives inside it. I thought I inturprited it in a strange kind of way. Only problem is how dark the image is, you can even see theres a table in that house!

Testing brushes

I thought, today I will try something different, today I will test brushes, but only one. Today I tested the Soft brush, i did this self portrait completely from soft brush. The results were different from what i expected, I thought it would come out blurry and a mess. Although it is blurred, its quite refined. If I were to take a hard brush to it now, i could neeten it up and it would begin to look quite interesting indeed.
Well, allways try new things, you know?

Armstrong sidley racer

For a little summer project set by Lee Piper, I decided to make a little sylized racer to go with my level. So i squished down an Armstrong Sidley. The goal was to make it low polly for a game. But 6,000 triangles was far too low, after talking to some people about making mid polly things for my portfolio. So I amped it up to 17k+. 20k being the limit, but I didnt want to get too neer it. Its low polly in places, such as the interior.
And so far has 1 1024x1024 Difuse, spec and normal map for the shell. 1 256x256 dif and bump for wheels. 1 512x512 difuse and alpha for the frame and interior.
Twas a fun little thing. Oh the car would be far less polly and more efficient if i didnt include interiors such as the engine and breaks and what not.

Sculpty Press

Decided to quickly paint my girlfriend's sculpty press, I on the other hand, am not fond of that material, looks cool though. In other news, tonsillitis is annoying and having your wisdom teath grow in afterwards is a greater annoyance.

The colours of this painting appear very dull, however its pretty highly textured. Was going to a differnt feel than my usual one brush method of working.
I dont think I've had "Five a day " in months, and whats this turning up to "72 a day? " hmm.
Hour or so still life. Mmm reduced price.

Self Portrait

Havnt done a self portrait in photoshop in a while, so I gave it a quick go. Mer, its looking alittle grey. Also the mirror was right up in my face, this caused me to draw my face too wide, think I corrected it. Gave up when I got hungry. :l

Cloud people?

Some conceptual sketches for this creative writing task thats been droped on a few people, what can I say? There a a good few contradictions in the story I was given, so its going to be as realistic as a Jerlompkerdonk.

photo studies

A while back I decided not to post any photo studies i do, I do a fair amount of them every now and again. I think it was because some guy kept thinking I was cheating some how by doing it, which was hypocritical as he would trace or copy from photos, getting them very wrong aswell. My point being studying from photos can be good, although in some cases its often bad practice (if your tracing or something like that). It realy seems to be what you're using the photo for, if youre using it directly to draw over, thats kind of crappy however you can use them to study things like values and tones, aswell as shapes and other things.

These are 30-40 minute studies looking at shapes and tone.

How did I go about them? Well I gave my self a few restrictions to stop bad practice.
First, I select my image, making sure theres something interesting about the picture, I quite liked the harsh black and white. I than put the image into photoshop, select a boarder around the image and on a new layer, paint in the slection area, move the now painted box to the side and use that as my canvas. Thats the only help I give myself so that the scale is correct.

Im not alowed to use rulers or eracers. The pippet tool (eye dropper) is not alowed to be used on the photo, only your canvas, so no grabbing swatches or piching tones. And I can only use one layer. Only the brush tool is aloud to be used.

This way, I have to measure and get the tones by eye.

So its basicaly just training the eye.
