Niffleheim - house and graves

Another white box of a Niffleheim house from that Ragnarok 2 concept art

Also, some spooky graves, using the previous model's spider web alphas.

Spirited away - Restaurant

Some renders of how the scene looks at the moment just in Max. I tried making the roof tiles on a single plane, but they didnt look very good. So im just using instanced tiles. The whole scene at the moment is 60k tri, 20k just being the roof tiles.

Another bowl of food, this time I just baked all the food down onto a 1028. The high poly was somewhat in the millions because of all the rice. Maybe I should have just make a repeatable rice texture, and added the other food bits on top.

I could get the tri count down on this by quite a lot, but Im leaving it high for the moment. Also the texture was just a default texture from Substance. But it think it looks okay. The rope parts around the base of the seat need to be a bit thicker on the normal map. And the secular maps aren't there. The rope on the ledges could look more like rope, the wood also is basic.

The stained glass doors. These dont have an opacity map on them. The wood also looks pretty flat, so I'll come back and edit them at some point.

The counter, each piece is two tiles side. There will be 7 of them, so the roughness may make it obvious its duplicated, or it may not. Ill add some grungy decals over it to break it up a bit.
Substance painter is pretty good for baking normals from high models made in max and the AO maps to.

I really disliked my first attempt at some kind of meat(?) bowl, the second attempt looks a good chunk better.

My first attempt at lanterns were pretty sad, this is the second. The handle needs to be re-done as its a bit too low for what I'd like. Ill need to figure out how to make them glow nicely with an emission map.

Pots and pans on a shelf.

I'm trying to do something small each day in the hope that it will build up to something more complete. Even if they're rough and quick, its more than nothing. Also it's quite good to have something that needs to be improved nagging at you.

Beach background

A background for an animation I made for work, a few characters were added,  washing  rocks and removing rubbish from the sea.

Oil thumbnails - beaches

Some studies of beaches from Ted Dyer's book, Paintings of Tresco. And a painting of a nice cloud formation I saw while on a walk with my wife. I like how the stormy weather created these layered bands of clouds, with a single white tip against a some what clear sky. These are quite small, roughly 12cm x 7cm.

Work illustrations

I make a lot of various illustrations for work. Many use these WM people, for internal communications and some external stuff. Usually the style is cut out and simple, but I think by using more natural colours it stops the characters from looking too childish.  Although the people do look some what like playmobil people, they're quite versatile for illustrations and fairly easy to animate.

These are some images for a cancer charity walk donation page.

Another attempt at an orderly paradise like landscape.

Monday, 6 December 2021

I wanted to draw a kind of orderly paradise like landscape, but I don't think I hit it.
It's focusing on the beach too much, and the sun bathing chairs just make it look lonely. I'm thinking a birds eye would have looked a lot nicer in showing some kind of order.

I tried to mix an Aboleth with a Beholder.

Crystal Convenient Coffin

Random word gen, pretty fun way but I always find myself going " Nope, nope, not cool, yeah thatll do". But trying to do something different whatever sparks an idea is good.
Composition wasnt that great for this one, no cleanup, still rough no after polish. Been feeling rather anti-polish of recent.

Mo Tutes

Was following along with a tutorial again making it my own drawing inspiration from it and doing my own thing from it. Composition is quite similar again, but still learned a thing or two. Wanted to break out of the block out paintings I do in personal drawings. As at times I dont want to push them any further.

Town of bells

A town of bells, the worlds greatest manufacturing city of bells, infact, they over produced so many bells they decided to use them for their archetecture. The locals decide to hang bells on the towns walls for luck and also because they like them pin, pong, ting noises they make. The idea of havingto hear bells all day would drive me insane.
Lunch time.

Desert! And pots!

After reading Equal Rites by Terry Pratchet, I wondered how I would draw the Silver-sand, dream desert he wrote about. This was about as close as I imagined, without the lava, that was just to play with the purples and blues. :I

More Egyptian pots.

Water fountain mountain and ice

Had a cool idea (pun intended), of a water fountine mountain, in winter! So all the water fountines are frozen over and stuff. How bad ass would it be to walk on frozen water fountines? Dangerous for one.

Set myself a 30 minute time limit for this set, worked okay I guess, I need to keep practising my environments and mechanicals.

I've been sketching a bunch of cartoons of recent, just becaue I like their styles and methods, looking at pixar and stuff. I drew a kid in this being taken away by birds, but it didnt look as good in terms of composition.

I also thought I'd have a go at redesigning the Barbalootzuits(?) from The Lorax, they're depicted as bears, but I dont think they sound very bearlike.
