Mortal Engines LOD
Wish I found out how to rig sooner, rigging LODs is a "cake walk" compaired to rigging a 6k mesh. Damn. Rigged this LoD in less than an hour, which is crazy for me, however something tells me it should take more time than that, but hey, it works.

Sometimes I just guilt myself in to writing something about my work. Mainly because I rarely write anything and secondly, It will make me look slightly more professional. Not only that, but it could build character, who knows. Give people something to read you know.
So This will be about the use of reference material, as we all know use of reference has its up and downs.
Copying a photo to the pixel is something that I consider poison, however the use of photos can change your work from something alright, to something a bit better. How do you know what your charcters face will look like if you dont know what a face looks like? Many artists use a photo or a model or something like that. Life drawing is using a referance, just primary referance. Recently Ive been thinking about how I can use my life drawing for illustration purposes, Ive done this a few times before, a few digital paints and a few traditionals.
Change the clothes, change the setting, change the mood, change the stance. The limits are unending, the first push is all thats needed to catapult ones imagination into a place unknown, who cares how you get there once youre there?
I dont really know where Im going with this. I guess I can just say, I used referance, than changed my painting untill it no longer looked like the reference picture, In fact, I got the reference from a korean photoshoot website. Oh well.

Todays Mushrooms
Just a simple set of 3, theyre probably a little expansive for mushrooms when you think about it, but Its not made for anything in particular. Being wasteful on the map, lots of empty space.
Flat diffuse map with marmoset render.
Was a fun little day project non the less.

Reading is a pile of, okay I guess.
30 minute speedpaint
On other news, I forgot to bring my tablet mouse with me, this isnt a problem for drawing, however using 3DsMax now has a added challenge to it, it would seem.
Oh I also forgot to bring my lamp, so still lifes are going to look kind of dull in the afternoons, stupid light.
Oh yeah, and this stuff. Dont you love it when youre university gets you to do work for them, but make it part of your university projects? ...what that doesnt happen to you? Well youre obviously missing out. (If that sounds bitter, its not, Im fine with it, but still find it amusing.)

Weekends
30 Minute photostudy
Morning Self Portrait
Not much has been going on.
But ive noticed a trend in my course of blatent photocopying. Makes me want to make a tutorial on why one should do a photostudie. Or copy from a photo in general.
Theres nothing wrong with photo studies, but how you use them can be. Copying from a photo and saying " heres my final illustration, look at me im badass " is pretty lame, theres no real challenge and youre not helping yourself create new imagery, you already have the photo, what the point of painting it? No one will ever ask you to copy a photo to the T. Painting a realisitc scene from like has some promise. Youre changing a 3D scene, into a 2D plane with the illustion of 3D. Which is a great skill you learn and will make you understand the 3D world in depth. Where as the 2D photo study is flat naturaly. Not to mention, the difference between youre two eyes vision and the vision of a one eyed camera.
You should realy only do photostudies for reasons such as: How do I draw that? Ive never drawn that before. I want to know a bit more about this. I want to test out this new technique/brush/medium.
Some people dont seem to realise that and just go " DUR THIS IS MY AMAZIN FINAL PEICE ", its pretty lame.
